Music Performance Theory

Music Performance Theory: Connecting Music Theory to Performance to Enhance Musicianship is a book designed to connect music theory with the music your ensemble plays. This book is instrument-based and explains the theory students need to know to play their music with a high level of understanding and expressiveness. Many current theory books focus on theory in isolation with little connection to the actual music students are playing; Music Performance Theory, however, illuminates how theory connects to music. The series has two levels, beginning/middle school, and a more advanced series for high school that can be used in AP music theory class. A teacher manual provides ideas about teaching theory from the podium, as well as a variety of rehearsal strategies and assessments that can be tailored to your students’ needs. Step-by-step instructions about how to write performance, written, and listening tests using Finale or Sibelius are included.
